Emmanuel is a Hebrew name meaning “God with us,” an Old Testament prophecy fulfilled in the person of Jesus (Isaiah 7:14).
Jesus invites us to join him in living our lives as the Presence of God in the world. We have the capacity to say “yes” to this invitation because, created in the image of God, each of us carries a spark of the Divine within—an inner Presence, God with us. In the Enneagram we describe this inner Presence as our Essence.
The Enneagram offers a path to remember and honor our Essence, to wake up to our true self—God with and within us. An important aspect of this work is slowing down and pausing to be curious about our experiences of Essence, often described as experiences of awe, and at the same time understanding the patterns that act as barriers to our receptivity to this.
—What are your experiences of God with and within you?
—When have you experienced awe?
—What supports an open heart so you can be receptive to these experiences?
—How are you invited to be God’s presence of Love in the world?
—What habits create a barrier to your “yes” to God?
If you are curious and would like to learn more about the Enneagram, I invite you to join me in January for the online series, “Introduction to the Enneagram: Waking Up to Your True Self.”
