Spiritual Practice for Undoing Racism and White Supremacy
with Melissa Borgmann-Kiemde
Is this Experience for Me?
This series is not focused on mastering material or diving deep into personal repentance, but more so making safe space for spiritual growth and healing for our world through deep listening and love.
In this new series to Loyola, Spiritual Director Melissa Borgmann-Kiemde opens up the topic of race and belonging. In the safety of a small group, white participants –committed to spiritual listening and sharing, will have an opportunity to reflect on God’s love, diversity and mercy through an examined look at whiteness and white body supremacy.
Utilizing a group spiritual direction format, participants will be invited to reflect and unpack their lived experiences, constructed social frameworks, and larger historical narratives, through the lens of great love.
Each session will begin with a brief presentation for group members to be still with, and respond to, as Spirit calls. Ignatian meditation prayer practice – with a focus on finding God in all things — will anchor our sessions.
A resource list for the course will be offered and developed in conjunction with participants.
“If racism at its core is a soul sickness, then we need to provide a remedy that can reach the inner reaches of the human spirit.” -Fr. Bryan Massingale
