Pastoral Services Provided at Loyola Spirituality Center
As part of its mission to teach people how to see God active in all things, Loyola has a keen interest in supplementing programs and services offered in churches of various denominations. Besides spiritual direction, educational programs and pastoral services, retreats are an important part of our mission. Here are examples of the kinds of pastoral services experiences available through Loyola Spirituality Center:
School of Prayer
A full- or half-day experience at Loyola or at other locations. Designed for persons of all ages and religious backgrounds, participants choose among a variety of forms—centering prayer, lectio divina, scriptural prayer, contemplative prayer, group prayer, and journaling among others. Emphasis is given to explaining a particular type of prayer with ample opportunity to practice and develop a comfortable personal prayer style in a prayer tradition. This program can be particularly helpful to people beginning spiritual direction or preparing for an extended retreat experience.
Brief Theme Retreats
During the year, Loyola offers a variety of shorter retreat experience designed to help participants deepen their experience of particular issues of spiritual growth. We are capable of offering these program in church settings as well.
Extended Ignatian Exercises (EIE)
For those persons interested in making The Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius Loyola, we offer a nine-month program that includes a weekly individual conference with a director. It is an excellent way for people to integrate their life of prayer with the rest of their lives. EIE retreats can be done individually or in a group. EIE can also be offered in parishes.
Six Week Group Retreat
These retreats are typically offered in a parish setting. They consist in a weekly group meeting for conversation and prayer over a six week period. Typically, these retreats are done for particular populations: new mothers, singles, people just entering retirement, men or women, veterans, GLBT folks.
Days of Prayer / Days of Recollection
Specific formats can be designed to meet specific needs, e.g., Advent, Lent and other opportunities for spiritual depth development.
Given the professional backgrounds of a number of directors associated with Loyola, we are also able to offer limited organization consulting and coaching services specifically tailored to a church or church-related organization.
